1. Malѐ: Malѐ is the capital city of the Maldives, with a population of 92,555 people. The city was an ancient administrative center of monarchies and harbored palaces and mosques. Portuguese merchants in the 16th Century established the contemporary city. However, the island remains a largely under-developed and under-utilised landmass. Pollution on the island is relatively less than on other islands in the Maldives.
